Pequot Yacht Club One-Design Program
Pequot Yacht Club
NOTICE OF RACE
1.1 The series will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020.
1.2 The following United States Sailing National Prescriptions will not apply: 63.2, 63.4.
1.3 The Ideal 18 class rules will apply.
1.4 No changes shall be made to the standing rigging of any boat.
1.5 Spinnakers will be used at the discretion of the race committee.
1.6 The Organizing Authority is the Pequot Yacht Club.
2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1 The regatta is open to:
a) Pequot Yacht Club boats of the Ideal 18 class whose skippers have become members of the Pequot Yacht Club one-design sailing program; and
b) Pequot Yacht Club junior sailors who are 18 years of age or younger and have been checked out on an Ideal 18. The sailors may skipper, but only after all PYC One Design members have secured a boat; and
c) Fairfield Community Sailing Ideal 18 class boats. Those boats may race, but will not be scored.
2.2 Eligible Pequot Yacht Club skippers shall register online using the xpiron database, but shall register for no more than 50% of the race days in the series prior to the first race day of the series. After the first race day of the series sailors shall register no more than one week in advance of the date they intend to race.
2.3 Skippers who are signed up to race and no longer intend to race on a given day shall remove their name from the xpiron database as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours prior to racing. RRS A9 will apply to sailors who fail to remove their names from the xpiron database in time. The relevant clause reads, "A boat that did not come to the starting area shall be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of boats entered in the series." A sailor's first offense will be waived.
2.4 On the day of sailing skippers will be taken off the waitlist in the order they signed up starting 45 minutes prior to the warning signal for the first start.
2.5 Races will occur provided three or more Pequot Yacht Club boats intend to race on a given day.
2.6 Fairfield Community sailing Ideal 18s do not need to register prior to sailing.
3.1 All skippers of Pequot Yacht Club boats must be members of the Pequot Yacht Club One Design program.
3.2 All sailors are encouraged to become members of the Ideal 18 Class Association by contacting:
40 Marina Drive, Rochester, NY 14617
Registration will be available on xpiron prior to the first day of the series. Be sure to adhere to NOR 2.2 as you register.
4.2 Dates of racing:
Date Ideal 18
May 1st Racing
May 8th Racing
May 15th Racing
May 22nd Racing
May 29th Racing
4.3 The race committee's intention is to sail 3 races per evening with each race lasting approximately 18 minutes.
4.4 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race each day is 1830.
4.5 For each day of racing no warning signal will be made after 1945 or within 30 minutes of sunset.
Pequot Yacht Club will maintain the fleet of Ideal 18s in a manner where each boat will be tuned using the same specifications to ensure parity throughout the fleet.
6 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The sailing instructions will be available one week prior to the first day of racing at Pequot Yacht Club and pequotyc.com.
7.1 Attachment A shows the location of the regatta harbor.
7.2 Attachment B shows the location of the racing areas.
8 THE COURSES
8.1 Course diagrams will be posted on the official regatta notice board. The course will be hailed by the race committee or shown on a white board utilizing alphanumeric designations before the warning signal.
8.2 Alphanumeric Course Coding
M = Modified course (start/finish line is between the windward and leeward mark)
L or W following an M indicates position of finish line (W = finish to windward, L = finish to Leeward)
L or W without an M preceding it indicates a Windward/Leeward course, with the W or L indicating position of finish line. The windward mark and/or the leeward mark will also be the pin end of the start/finish line.
(number) = number of WINDWARD legs to be completed
Examples: MW2 = Windward/leeward/finish to windward. (Start/finish line is set between the windward and leeward marks)
L2 = Windward/leeward/windward/finish to leeward. (Pin end of the start/finish line is the same as the leeward mark).
ML2 = Windward/Leeward/Windward/finish downwind. (Start/finish line is set between the windward and leeward marks)
8.3 Example course diagrams are available here as Attachment C.
9.1 The low point scoring system will be used.
9.2 Three (3) races are required to be completed to constitute a season series.
9.3 (a) When fewer than five (5) races have been completed in a day of racing, a boat's daily series score will be the total of her race scores.
(b) When five (5) races have been completed in a day of racing, a boat's daily series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
9.4 A boat that misses the first race, but sails races thereafter will not be scored for the first race. The entry DNC will be used for race one, and it will not count for or against that boat's average for the day's races. This changes RRS A4.2.
9.5 Each boat must have a designated skipper for the evening. The skipper must steer the boat for all races. Scores will be attributed to the skipper. For a race where the skipper is not at the helm, she will be scored DSQ for that race.
10 RADIO COMMUNICATION
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
11.1 Skippers who participated in 50% or more of the days of racing will be eligible for prizes. If an odd number of days are sailed, skippers who sailed in one more than 50% of the days of racing will be eligible for prizes.
11.2 The crew for an eligible skipper will also be eligible for prizes provided that the crew sailed with the eligible skipper for at least two of the days of racing sailed by that skipper.
11.3 Prizes will be awarded as follows: If 8 or more skippers are eligible for prizes then the top 3 skippers will be awarded prizes at an awards banquet following the conclusion of the series. If between 5 and 7 skippers are eligible for prizes, then the top 2 skippers will receive an award. If fewer than 5 skippers are eligible for prizes, then only the top skipper will receive an award.
12 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
