PEQUOT YACHT CLUB IS THE ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
NOTICE OF RACE
1.1. Racing will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020, the prescriptions of US Sailing, the PHRF regulations of the Yacht Racing Association of Long Island Sound, Connecticut Covid-19 Guidance and the Sailing Instructions.
1.2. Boats shall comply with the Minimum Equipment and Safety Recommendations of the YRA-LIS for Category B. A copy of these regulations is available on the YRA-LIS web site at www.yralis.org
1.3. RRS 40 is replaced by: “It shall be the individual responsibility of each competitor to wear adequate personal flotation devices when they or their skipper determines that conditions warrant the same. US Sailing prescribes that every boat shall carry life-saving equipment conforming to government regulations that apply in the racing area.”
2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1. This event is open to boats with a valid 2020 YRALIS PHRF certificate.
2.2. The entry fee per boat is $40.00. Checks should be made payable to Pequot Yacht Club.
2.3. The entry fee for Pequot members will be charged to their club accounts. Checks, entry forms and PHRF certificates (for boats which have not previously submitted 2020 certificates to the Pequot YC Race Committee) must be received at the address on the entry form no later than 1700, Wednesday, September 9, 2020. The PYC Race Committee may accept late entries at its discretion. Email delivery of entry forms and rating certificates is also permitted and encouraged: email@example.com. If the entry form is sent via email, the entry fee may be mailed or paid at the Pequot Yacht Club prior to the entry deadline.
3.1. Racing will be conducted in two divisions:
3.1.1. Division 1 – boats with a spinnaker distance rating less than or equal to 80
3.1.2. Division 2 - boats with a spinnaker distance rating greater than 80
3.2. The Race Committee, at its discretion, may combine Divisions or adjust division splits depending on the numbers of competitors entered.
4. QUALIFYING SERIES
Pequot’s Falkner Island Race is a qualifier for the Caper, Sagola and Windigo trophies awarded by the YRA of Long Island Sound.
The first Warning Signal will be made at 1825.
6. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The Sailing Instructions will be posted on Pequot Yacht Club’s website prior to the entry deadline.
Racing will take place on Long Island Sound, with start and finish on the waters near Southport Harbor. Government buoys and private marks will be used as marks.
From the “A” Mark off Southport Harbor, to and around Falkner Island and return to “R 22” for the finish, as described in greater detail in the Sailing Instructions.
9.1. Appendix T of the RRS applies.
9.2. The arbitrator will be designated by the Pequot Yacht Club Protest Committee in its sole discretion.
10.1. Boats will be awarded finish positions based on their corrected elapsed time. To calculate corrected times, the PHRF Time on Time method will be used, under which a boat’s elapsed time will be multiplied by that boat’s Time Correction Factor (TCF), which will be calculated as follows: TCF=650 / (550 + PHRF handicap)
Corrected Time=Elapsed Time x TCF
10.2 YRA-LIS PHRF Spinnaker Distance ratings will be used.

12. RADIO COMMUNICATION
The race committee may use VHF channel 69 to broadcast courtesy information to all competitors.
The Starring Trophy will be awarded to the Pequot Yacht Club boat with the lowest corrected time. Competitors in each Division will receive prizes as follows: First place will be awarded if three boats start in the Division. First and second places will be awarded if four boats start in the Division. If more than four boats start in a Division, first, second and third places will be awarded. Prizes will be presented at the Pequot YC annual Awards Dinner.
14. SAILOR’S RESPONSIBILITY
14.1. Competitors participate in the event entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race.
14.2. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
