The San Francisco Yacht Club has a long tradition of sailing and racing excellence dating back over 150 years. Members of The SFYC have won Olympic medals and raced in all corners of the globe. Wide recognition of The Club's race management capabilities have enabled the Yacht Club to attract significant national and international championship regattas. The Race Program is supported by dedicated SFYC Members and members of the broader sailing community who volunteer more than 4,800 hours each year, enabling sailors from all over the world to sail in the world-renowned San Francisco Bay breeze and visit beautiful Marin County.
During area County "Shelter in Place" Orders most regattas are on hold, pending study of County laws and rules. 2 weeks prior to each regatta that regatta will be either cancelled or postponed, as noted below, if unable to run.
In the meantime try this "household course comparison" idea.

Our internationally renowned racing program would not be possible without the support of dedicated members and volunteers from the broader sailing community. Volunteering for Race Committee is a great way to give back to The Club, meet new people, learn more about racing and get acquainted with the Club if you’re hoping to apply for membership.
Signing up to volunteer is easy! Simply click below to view the schedule of upcoming regattas, indicate which regatta and which volunteer position you’re interested in, and submit the form. Volunteers can submit as many forms as they like throughout the year.
Please note: When signing up to volunteer, please assume you will be scheduled unless you hear differently from the Principle Race Officer (PRO). Each PRO is asked to confirm directly with each volunteer as soon as possible and 6 weeks and 2 weeks prior to each regatta.
If there's been a change in your availability, please contact the Race Office at 415-789-5647. Thank you for volunteering!

Since its founding in 1869, SFYC has hosted thousands of days of racing on one of the country's most celebrated bodies of water. Stored in the drawers and corners of our clubhouse are sketches of the Club's first racecourses as well as thrilling reports of our earliest regattas which were covered in detail in The Chronicle.
The SFYC Cruise Committee is excited to offer a fantastic line-up of cruises each year for our membership. It's a great way for sailors and power-boaters to spend time on the water together, enjoying each other's company!

To Spring 2020 Participants, posted 4/8/20:
We have had to make the decision to cancel the SFYC Safety at Sea courses that you are signed up for as a participant. As we do not wish to leave you all ‘high and dry’ without a method of gaining this qualification we have three options to give each one of you. Please send me an email back with your choice of options, to training@sfyc.org.
1) Do the US Sailing Online course 10 topics + another online course (about to be launched on another platform by US Sailing) with 5 more topics that brings you up to World Sailing course level. We would send you a log in code and the cost of those two courses would be paid for by SFYC using your registration fees already paid. At the end of the two online courses you would send us a copy of the certificates and then on 22nd October (mid-week sorry about that) at SFYC you would then do the hands on portion of the course to convert the online course into a full World Sailing course. In the meantime it is likely that any offshore races that are still going ahead this year will accept your online course as there is an understanding that the virus is stopping these courses from going ahead.
2) Postpone your participation to our October courses choice would be 23-24th October or 25-26th October.
3) Get a full refund for your course and find another course that works for you elsewhere when Shelter-In-Place is lifted.
Those of you who were meant to be doing the refresher course would instead do the course in October as US Sailing are allowing you to extend even if you are outside the expiry date at that time.

In 2003 ISAF introduced a standard basic syllabus for the training of safety courses in order to establish an internationally recognized qualification. The training requirements form part of the ISAF Offshore Special Regulation. These courses are run and established by ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs) and conform to ISAF minimum standards. This certification will be required for 30% of all offshore racers, including skippers, starting in 2018.
